New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox get in dustup

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox engaged in a massive brawl during the seventh inning of a game at Fenway Park on Wednesday, April 11.

The team said during Wednesday's game that he will be evaluated further. The Red Sox were mad at Austin for an ugly slide into second base. Lots of runs, lots of drama, lots of punches.

It all began on a Tyler Wade bunt in the third inning that would advance Neil Walker to third base, forcing Tyler Austin out at second. Austin's later at-bat in the seventh inning against Joe Kelly, who throws in the upper 90s and sometimes reaches 100, was really what set off the fireworks.

Two pitches later, Kelly caught him on the side with a 98 miles per hour heater.

We always want to win titles but of course we have to win the FA Cup to finish the season well. But he had made just FIVE Premier League starts for Chelsea this season.

As Austin jogged up to Kelly, the pitcher appeared to egg him on, motioning for him to step forward while the benches and bullpens cleared. After all the dust settled, the Red Sox still found themselves down by four to the score of 10-6.

By the way, the Yankees won, 10-7, to improve to 6-6, while the Red Sox dropped to 9-2. Tanaka (2-1) picked up the victory despite allowing six runs on seven hits over five innings. Boston's previous ejection came last September when Carl Willis was tossed from a game at Yankee Stadium. Sanchez was 3-5 with two, two-run home runs. Stanton had three hits.

Secondly, with Sonny Gray on the mound for the Yankees, expect to see Andrew Benintendi back in the lineup for the Red Sox as he's batting.667 off Gray with a home run. It was the second of two benches-clearing incidents involving Austin after a questionable third-inning slide.

"It made me wonder, too, if they were in their clubhouse watching the Padre-Rockie brawl and planted the seed for them and led them to think that that's why they should do", Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said.
