Cameroon weightlifters, boxers go missing at Commonwealth Games

England celebrate victory over New Zealand

Team Nigeria ended day seven in the 10th position in the medal table of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The central African country are said to have traveled to the events with a 24-man team and eight of them are reported to have vanished in the space of three days according to CNN.

It's not the first time Australia has dealt with cases of missing worldwide athletes, mostly from African nations, suspected of fleeing in a bid to seek asylum.

Cameroon team manager Victor Agbor Nso on Wednesday confirmed weightlifter Olivier Matam and boxers Ndzie Tchoyi and Simplice Fotsala had been due to compete this week but could not be found.

She started her surge with 250 meters to go and rounded the leaders with 200 remaining, extending her lead in the home stretch and then flexing her biceps in a bodybuilding pose after crossing the line.

"I think it's disappointing that athletes that have come didn't compete as they were scheduled to compete", he said.

Yombo was due to fight Canadian Harley O'Reilly in Wednesday night's men's 81-kilogram boxing quarter-final four.

All eyes are on Indian wrestlers and focus will also be on the women's hockey team that takes on mighty Australia in the semifinal.

Anyone who really knows me knows that I'm not exactly a huge fan of the rap/hip-hop genre. "Anything can be done in good taste". The iconic label has celebrated Cardi B on landing gold status for her long-awaited Invasion of Privacy album.

"When an athlete comes to Australia to compete in a competition we expect them to front-up on the field and compete, so we are disappointed about that", Jones explained.

Mr Nso said team officials had notified the Australian police and state officials in Cameroon.

Although the Australian Border Force has been informed, the athletes are not yet in breach of their visa conditions.

"Until it becomes a real issue in terms of visas and so forth, we would obviously need to take that very seriously".

Commonwealth Games organisers called for competitors to respect the law, mindful of the fact that more than 100 athletes overstayed their visas at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

In years gone by, England have been forced to accept their place in the pecking order behind their Antipodean rivals, with Australia and New Zealand battling out every Commonwealth Games final since netball joined in 1986.

"In the meantime, the other two weightlifters of the delegation, along with the basketball players and officials, have already left Australia and are presently airborne for Cameroon", he added.
