Apple forced to pay troll

Apple then pursued another appeal, but the company lost and has been ordered to pay $439.7 million in damages. The two companies have been battling it out in court over various patent cases for 8 years, the most recent case pertains to Apple's iMessenger and FaceTime technology. According to a new report from Bloomberg, an Eastern Texas court has ruled that Apple infringes on four VirnetX patents and must pay $502.6 million in damages...

The Texas-based jury found that Apple infringed on VirnetX's patents for secure communications when creating FaceTime, VPN on Demand, and iMessage. The company is what's known within the industry as a 'patent troll'. It isn't the first time a ruling in the case has gone against Apple.

Larsen said after the verdict was announced.

Apple has been dealt what may be a short-lived blow in a long-fought battle with VirnetX. Later on, the company was ordered by the district court to pay more than United States dollars 400 million as damages to the patent-holding company VirnetX for copyright violations. Apple has been targeted by this twice over the last several years.

Pogba Powers United to a Thrilling Win Over City
After the full-time whistle, Pogba exchanged a few words with Guardiola then headed straight to United's traveling contingent. Manchester United beat Manchester City 3-2 yesterday with Pogba inspiring a stunning second half fightback.

The Federal Circuit, which handles all patent appeals, declined to put this trial on hold, saying it was so far along that a verdict would come before a final validity decision.

KitGuru Says: We have seen Apple on the opposite end of this in the past, with the case against Samsung being the most prolific example.

VirnetX, who has neither created nor marketed a single tangible product, is now in the process of appealing the aforementioned PTAB ruling, implying that though they were previously invalidated, the firm's patents still remain valid in the eyes of the court until further notice.
