Vevo YouTube Videos Defaced In Apparent Hack

A Twitter account that seems to belong to one of the hackers claims the pair used a script to change the titles, adding "Don't judge me I love YouTube".

Update 4/10/18 10:45 AM ET: Vevo has confirmed to Engadget that a "security breach" affected a number of videos, and that it's continuing to look into the cause. Other popular music videos from the likes of Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Drake, Shakira, and others were also defaced and their thumbnails and titles were changed as well.

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Decpacito", the most-viewed video on YouTube and the first to reach 5 billion views, was removed and replaced by a disturbing image of masked men in red hoods holding guns. Some of these videos are still available but with the defaced titles and thumbnail images. "Free Palestine" was written in the description.

Among the videos affected was "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi, which is now the most-watched YouTube video of all time, with more than five billion views. The video-hosting site says it's still recovering from the hack and investigating its source. Guess people will have to take five minutes out of their life when the video is put back up in order to restore the viewership numbers.

"Vevo can confirm that a number of videos in its catalogue were subject to a security breach today, which has now been contained", a Vevo spokesperson told The Verge.

Donald Trump, Barack Obama Among World Leaders Snubbed For Royal Wedding
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not invited British Prime Minister Theresa May or US President Donald Trump to their wedding . While it didn't look all that likely that President Trump would be invited, many speculated that the Obamas would be included.

A spokesperson for YouTube issued the following statement: "After seeing unusual upload activity on a handful of Vevo channels, we worked quickly with our partner to disable access while they investigate the issue".

A user appearing to be Prosox commented on the hack on Twitter.

Even the most successful online companies with the world's best engineers can be prone to online hacks.

"Despacito" was trash anyway.
