Another death from synthetic pot outbreak in IL

The accused and the seized marijuana

A third person has died and more than 100 people have been sickened by tainted synthetic pot that has caused symptoms of severe bleeding, IL health officials announced Monday.

All 3 of the deaths associated with synthetic cannabinoids were men, 2 in their 20s and 1 in his 40s.

Those who have been affected by the synthetic marijuana with brodifacoum have coughed up blood, experienced blood in the urine, and other reported symptoms include a severe bloody nose, bleeding gums and internal bleeding.

Federal officers said artificial cannabinoids have been packaged in sealed containers tagged with titles like "Matrix, ' 'Blue Giant" and 'insane Monkey.' Testing of the products demonstrated brodifacoum, a toxic substance often used in rat poison.

"Synthetic cannabinoids are unsafe", said IDPH Director Nirav D. Shad, M.D., J.D.

Other states, including Indiana, Maryland, Missouri and Wisconsin, have reported cases involving patients with severe bleeding after synthetic marijuana use.

"The health and safety of New Yorkers is our number one priority", Cuomo said of synthetic marijuana use.

Though the synthetic cannabis is illegal, the key can be to look at the packaging to determine if that's what it contains, Stenger added.

Trump Boycotts Annual White House Correspondents Dinner Again
The event typically features a comedian who roasts the president and his team and then the top executive returns it to the press. According to the WHCA, the president will also "actively encourage" administration officials to attend.

OLPD said anyone who has used synthetic marijuana should seek medical attention, as it can take days or weeks for symptoms to appear.

Illinois' synthetic pot death toll is up to three.

Synthetic cannabinoids are found across IL and the U.S.in places like convenience stores, gas stations, drug paraphernalia shops, novelty stores, and online.

Often called K-2 or Spice, the chemicals are similar to those found in marijuana, but they are unregulated.

MI health officials issued a warning to the public to be aware of the cases.

The CDC has concurred that the use of synthetic cannabinoids can lead to serious illness or death.

The CDC and the IDPH are urging anyone who has a reaction to synthetic cannabinoids, including severe bleeding, to seek emergency medical treatment.
