Mueller Probing Ukrainian Billionaire's Payment To Trump Charity

FBI agents raided Michael Cohen's office and home on Monday in what is believed to be an investigation into an alleged $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels

A number of former officers on the Federal Election Fee have mentioned the fee seems to be a violation of marketing campaign finance legal guidelines, and a number of Washington-based teams have filed complaints with the FEC, urging it to research. "Well I think it's a disgrace", Trump said at the White House.

"The decision by the U.S. Attorney's Office in NY to conduct their investigation using search warrants is completely inappropriate and unnecessary", the lawyer, Stephen Ryan, told NBC in a statement. Ryan called the raids "completely inappropriate and unnecessary" and said they led to the "unnecessary seizure" of documents protected by attorney-client privilege. Instead, he is conducting a broad investigation of Donald Trump, including the flow of foreign money into various Trump-controlled entities.

If the Donald ever had any inclination to fire Robert Mueller, now is the time. Mueller has charged 19 people and obtained five guilty pleas, including from Trump's former national security adviser and campaign aides.

The donation was reportedly solicited by Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, whose offices were raided by the FBI as part of a separate investigation on Monday. He called Mueller's investigation "an attack on our country", prompting new speculation that he might seek the removal of the Justice Department's special counsel.

"I think it's a disgrace what's going on", Trump said following a meeting with senior military leadership.

It came after prosecutors in the Southern District of NY convinced the judge they had probable cause that evidence of crimes existed at the locations.

Still, the existence of a referral from Mueller's office to the Manhattan U.S. Attorney suggests that the matter isn't related to Russian Federation.

One of the things they said: "I fired Comey".

According to the Times, the line of inquiry is part of a broader look at foreign money flowing through Trump and his associates.

Trump has frequently criticized the Clintons for using their charitable organization, the Clinton Foundation, for personal financial gain and to peddle political influence.

Cohn has been under scrutiny over a $130,000 payment to a porn actress who says she had sex with Trump more than a decade ago.

Earlier this year, Mueller subpoenaed the Trump Organization for documents relating to the donation, made by Ukranian steel magnate Victor Pinchuk.

"We are a nation of laws", said Cicilline, in a news release.

Mueller's interest in Pinchuk stands out as the Ukrainian does not have any known ties to the Russian government.

The New York Times wrote Monday evening that Mueller's team is investigating the circumstances around the payment, which came after Trump addressed a September 2015 conference via satellite and answered questions for 20 minutes.

Michael Cohen, Trump's longtime personal lawyer, facilitated Pinchuk's donation, which was the largest one the foundation received in 2015.

The event, his first foray into global politics during the campaign, was set up by Doug Schoen, a veteran political consultant and pollster who works with Mr. Pinchuk, according to a person familiar with how the speech was arranged.

Prosecutors couldn't get a search warrant for a fishing expedition, said David Sklansky, a professor of criminal law at Stanford University.
