'A Quiet Place' dethrones 'Ready Player One' at the weekend box office

Emily Blunt

The 38-year-old actor stars alongside his wife Emily Blunt in the critically-acclaimed new horror film "A Quiet Place", and John has confessed he's now finally a fan of the genre, having previously been reluctant to convert. I think John has created this incredible world with these characters and I think A Quiet Place definitely lives on its own. Horror movies aren't known for legs but they also aren't known for large budgets.

A Quiet Place was distributed by Paramount, who also owns the Cloverfield franchise. Now might be a good time for us to check out Krasinski's first real writing gig. "A Quiet Place" chronicles the story of a family which struggles to survive amid the invasion of blind, sound-hunting monsters.

As for fellow new release Blockers, the movie sold about 2.2 million tickets, which makes it the biggest comedy debut of the year so far. It's one of those star-studded dramas you can catch for free on a streaming service and is worth a view before catching Krasinski's second chance at directing.

Riding a huge wave of positive reviews and excellent word of mouth - all of which is definitely deserved - Paramount Pictures' A Quiet Place made some serious noise at the box office this past weekend. "She was just so a part of this process that it's the best collaboration I'll ever have".

The Undertaker Returns to WresleMania, Defeats John Cena
But after dismantling Elias and heading up the ramp to the locker room, special effects revealed Undertaker's hat in the ring. In some occasions, the Undertaker's brother, Kane had responded on behalf of his brother but Cena remained unsatisfied.

Ultimately, Krasinski's horror debut was a fantastic success.

The film, which cost an estimated $17 million, also stars Emily Blunt ("Sicario", "The Devil Wears Prada"), Krasinski's wife, and is the first Paramount title to outperform expectations since Jim Gianopulos took over the studio previous year. But engaging the audience on a more visceral level like this is awesome since it not only takes the fear level up to another notch, but it creates a situation in which the normal reactions to a threat will be those that will get a person killed. Shortly after the release of the movie's trailer, a fan theory cropped up claiming A Quiet Place was a secret Cloverfield sequel, which audiences would only learn after seeing the movie. If you want know why casting Blunt as a stressed-out mom made sense, check her out as a strung-out boozehound on the Train.

"A Quiet Place" is now playing at UA Berkeley 7. Especially given that the latest installment of that series, the Netflix-dumped The Cloverfield Paradox, was only seen by 2.8 million people in its first three days, per Nielsen tracking. Similarly, turning to drama, while a great number of incredible films have been released in the years since the introduction of sound that convey emotions silently (watch the Carl and Ellie montage from Up and try not to tear up), have any come close to the best works of Nosferatu filmmaker F. W. Murnau or Russian film pioneer Sergei Eisenstein? A Quiet Place is also both Krasinski and Blunt's best live-action opener of all time.
