Softball falls in title game, baseball advances to championship

After having to cancel or postpone their last 10 games, the weather finally cleared up allowing the Midway softball team to play their first meaningful game since March 16 when they traveled to Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on Wednesday, April 4.

Unfortunately the Eagles (9-12) were unable to complete the doubleheader sweep, but they forced extra innings before dropping the 4-3 decision on a walk-off two-run home run.

Midway struck first with a run in the top of the first to grab the early 1-0 lead. Lea Credidio ignited the Lakers' rally with a double to left center.

Coquille got off to a quick start with three runs in the first inning and a key RBI single by Rhiannon McKinley in the sixth.

Anna scored five runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead, and Russian Federation responded with two in the bottom of the inning.

The Lady Trojans wasted no time, quickly jumping out to a 3-0 lead, including a two-run home run by Macey McElravy.

"For our mistakes, I just had this gut feeling tonight when these girls came up that they were going to get it done", Russian Federation coach Michelle Muhlenkamp said. That one inning, with that big home run, that was kind of a letdown.
