One day after horrific spill, Tony Finau plays Masters on tender ankle

Golfer Tony Finau has injured himself in freakish circumstances while celebrating his incredible hole-in-one during the traditional Par 3 Tournament.

With his ankle visibly damaged, he appeared to lean down and simply push it back into place before limping back to the tee.

Finau then proceeded to sprint towards the hole in celebration. "It's nothing short of a miracle for me".

That was a score matched by their playing partner Patrick Reed, while Henrik Stenson also dropped a shot at the last to finish his opening round one off the lead held by Finau.

The freak injury puts Finau's status for the Masters in question, but Finau is still hoping to play. X-rays were negative, and Finau was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.

Trump congratulates Egypt's Sisi after dubious vote

Making his first Masters start since 2015, Tiger is scheduled to tee off at 10:42 a.m on Thursday with Tommy Fleetwood and Marc Leishman.

The world number 34 tweeted: "Crazy day". It sounds like the final hole at Amen Corner is going to get a little longer.

In a happier set of circumstances involving a hole-in-one, Gary Nicklaus - son of golf great Jack Nicklaus - hit a hole-in-one on the last hole of the Par 3 Contest.

The Lehi resident posted a 4-under-par 68 in his first official tour of Augusta National, ending up tied with Matt Kuchar for second place, two strokes behind Jordan Spieth.

"Nice putt", someone said as Poulter lingered under the mammoth oak tree in front of the clubhouse at Augusta National. "But I feel like my back's been up against the wall my whole life, so something like this is just another part of the story, I guess".
