Severe storm threat for St. Louis tonight and tomorrow

Storms arriving Tuesday night

New storms will likely develop late morning through early afternoon as a cold front swings through the area.

The Storm Prediction Center says northwestern MS is part of an area that faces an enhanced risk of severe weather starting Tuesday afternoon. Flooding and strong, straight line winds are my main concern.

The tornado risk remains around five percent.

To the west of the Golden Triangle, golf-ball-size hail will also be a possibility.

I expect that as we start the day on Tuesday we will have waves of moisture with some rumbles of thunder as well moving into our are. Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary severe weather threats.

Storms are forecast to enter eastern Arkansas between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday. It gets cold enough for some lake effect snow Wednesday night. Wind will blow predominantly from the east at 8 to 13 miles per hour, with a shift to the south, late, to those who have that warm front pass north of you.

A strengthening spring storm system will approach the state Tuesday afternoon and evening bringing multiple rounds of thunderstorms.

Our severe storm outlook today from the Storm Prediction Center remains relatively unchanged.

It'll be sunny on Wednesday, but much cooler with high temperatures into the mid to upper 50s. The overnight low in the area was expected to bottom out at a frigid 28 degrees, well below normal and more than 35 degrees below the day's predicted high.
