Cosby case now has seven jurors

Judge in Bill Cosby retrial gives defence two big victories

Also Tuesday, O'Neill ruled that lawyers may not mention at trial the pending lawsuits between Constand and Bruce L. Castor Jr., the former district attorney who declined to file charges against Cosby in 2005.

He announced them Tuesday morning on Day 2 of jury selection.

Cosby has pleaded not guilty to charges he drugged and sexually molested Constand, a Temple University women's basketball administrator, at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004.

A judge ruled on Tuesday that an ex-Temple University employee, Marguerite Jackson, who claims fellow former Temple employee Andrea Constand, 44, told her she meant to fabricate sex assault claims as a way to make money, will be able testify at trial.

Montgomery County judge said Bill Cosby can present testimony at his sexual assault retrial that his accuser allegedly once told a friend she could fabricate a claim of sexual assault to "get money to go to school and open a business".

Bill Cosby has been given permission by the judge to present evidence of Andrea Constand's motives and details of their financial settlement. The defense team has already blocked several women from serving on the jury, according to ABC News, while the prosecution excluded two men, including one who had disparaging things to say about the #MeToo movement. By late Tuesday morning, three jurors had been selected. More than half said they already had made up their minds about Cosby, and all of them were dismissed.

The second day of jury selection in the Bill Cosby sexual-assault retrial saw the addition of six more jurors and two victories for the comedian's legal team.

Veteran lawyers and jury consultants say #MeToo could cut both ways for Cosby, making some potential jurors more hostile and others more likely to think men are being unfairly accused.

Trump congratulates Egypt's Sisi after dubious vote
Since the campaign was launched, more than 100 jihadists and at least 22 soldiers have been killed, according to official figures. In the 2012 and 2014 elections, images circulated on social media showed one voter who wrote in "My vote is for you, Batman".

The first and only juror to be selected Monday indicated he had no knowledge of the case and wouldn't let what he's heard about.MeToo influence his ability to be impartial.

He was an outlier among the 120 suburban Philadelphia residents summoned as potential jurors in the case. He also put off a decision on whether to allow witnesses who could corroborate accusations made by five other women who will testify against Cosby at trial; O'Neill said he would make a decision once the trial is underway.

Cosby's defense team, now led by celebrity attorney Tom Mesereau, says the testimony is key to demonstrating that Constand schemed to set up 80-year-old Cosby. His last trial ended in a hung jury.

All but one of the people in the initial group of potential jurors said they were aware of the Me Too movement or the allegations it spurred against powerful entertainment figures. Testimony from Marguerite Jackson will be offered as proof of Constand's motives for targeting Cosby. Ten years later, a judge unsealed deposition testimony Cosby gave during that civil suit, in which he said he did give Constand pills and there was sexual contact the night of the alleged assault.

A big question during the jury-selection process this week has been the impact the #MeToo movement is having on potential jurors.

Picking a jury has proven hard after the #MeToo movement started toppling famous men months after Cosby's first trial ended in a deadlock.

The newspaper does not normally identify victims of sex crimes without their consent but is using Constand's name because she has identified herself publicly.
