Two IndiGo Aircraft Grounded after Engine Problems During Take-off

Yet another IndiGo flight grounded in Delhi

"Rest four aircraft are back in operation", the airline said.

In a separate statement about the second incident, the company said: "A320 neo aircraft that operated Delhi-Srinagar was cleared after maintenance checks upon arrival at Srinagar airport".

IndiGo had on 18 March said that it had withdrawn two A320neo aircraft, the first operating on Bengaluru-Delhi route after metal chips were observed on one of the engines, and the second operating on Delhi-Srinagar due to hydraulic leakage.

"An A320 neo aircraft that operated Bangalore-Delhi this morning was proactively withdrawn in Delhi for a maintenance check to attend to a Pilot Reported Defect". However, during engine start, the Pilot-in-Command observed a hydraulic (not oil) leakage from #2 engine.

After DGCA's direction, all the A320neo aircraft with PW1100 engines beyond serial number 450 have been taken off operations in India.

The airline's President said IndiGo expects to further reduce daily flight cancellations in the coming week. Several instances of engines shutting down during flights and rejected take-offs have been reported on certain Airbus A320neo planes, forcing regulators to ground many of them. The airline also faced problem with a Delhi- Srinagar flight on Sunday that witnessed hydraulic leak from one engine after it landed at Srinagar.

Since it was uploaded on Friday, the video has had over one million views on Facebook and close to half a million on YouTube. Rebecca, who stars in the video with four-year-old son Archie, says: "We wanted everyone to see it".

As per DGCA, together both airlines have 45 A320Neos - with Indigo having 32 and GoAir having 13, which are fitted with P&W 1100 engines. This caused a reduced capacity for the airlines forcing them to cancel flights.

Curently, in India, the A320Neo engines are used by Air India, Indigo, Vistara and GoAir on domestic route.

There are a few worldwide flights from Muscat and to Sharjah that have been cancelled as well. Around 122 flights scheduled between March 16-31 have been cancelled.

Indigo investors have lost some faith in it's share price. It had reportedly invested $10 billion to develop the geared-turbofan (GTF) engines, which power many Airbus A320Neos.

GoAir is not listed on stock exchanges.
