'Exhausted' Toys R Us Suppliers Weigh Options As Huge Retailer Shuts

Toys 'R' Us

Meanwhile, there are reports on Reddit of Apple products heavily discounted at Toys "R" Us stores.

It is easy to see them as the large, clumsy dinosaur that was unable to survive in the new world.

Still, the company is under little pressure to hammer out a deal and deliberations may lead nowhere. In 2015, Bloomberg notes, Amazon considered buying some closed down Radio Shack locations, but ultimately opted against doing so. Nothing came of those talks. The toy chain has a massive retail presence with over 700 big box stores around the country.

The company, which filed for bankruptcy in September, announced plans to shut down its us operations last week.

USA rate hike fears pull down Sensex
The broader NSE Nifty closed 0.99 percent lower at 10,094.25, its lowest closing level since December 6. The benchmark finally settled at 32,996.76, showing a gain of 73.64 points, or 0.22 per cent.

MGA Entertainment confirmed last week that its CEO Isaac Larian and affiliated investors are a bidder for the Toys "R" Us Canada operations. The company has announced that it will shut down all its stores in the U.K. The future of its stores in Australia, France, Poland, Portugal and Spain are also hanging in balance. A buyer could potentially still operate some US stores from a Canadian base.

Strategic Marks bought the KB Toys brand from Bain Capital in 2016, the same company that bought Toys R Us in 2006.

"We have a $14-$15m payment due that hasn't been paid", Isaac Larian, chief executive of Bratz dolls maker MGA Entertainment, said.

It has also opened the first cashless convenience store, where shoppers can fill their shopping carts and just leave the store, with sensors recording the purchases and charging them to a credit card.
