Dog sent overseas by mistake returned to Kansas family
"We chose the fastest option to reunite the dog with his family", said United spokesman Jonathan Guerin.
On Thursday, a dog at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey bound for Akron, Ohio, was accidentally loaded onto another flight to St. Louis. The pet was delivered safely to its owners and all passengers on the flight were compensated, United said. It was a 12-hour flight.
The family of the dog, Kokito, claims that they were told by a flight attendant to put the dog in the overhead bin rather than underneath the seat.
The incident was United's third dog-related mishap just this week; fortunately this time, it led to a happier conclusion than the first.
CNN reported that at least 33 passengers were on the flight. "This poor family paid US$125 for their pet to be murdered in front of them".
Xi Jinping re-elected as President, close ally Wang Qishan is Vice-President
Wang retired from the Politburo of the Communist Party a year ago at the party's customary retirement age of 68. Like Xi's re-election, Wang's appointment was no surprise as he enjoys the President's patronage.
Then on Tuesday, another case of mistaken canine identity occurred on a United flight, sending a pet owner into a frenzy when she discovered a Great Dane in the place of her German Shepard, Irgo, in a facility at the Kansas City airport.
"Pets are not luggage, and they should not be put in the overhead compartment", she said.
Kennedy, citing the U.S. Department of Transportation, said in a letter to the president of United that of the 24 animals that died in major airlines' care past year, 18 of those animals were in the care of United.
"An error occurred during connections in Denver for two pets sent to the wrong destinations".
Data from the US Department of Transportation shows that three times as many animals died on United flights a year ago than on all the other US carriers put together.
