Search halts for worker after Cresson chemical plant blast

NBC
INFERNO An explosion and large fire at a North Texas chemical plant on Thursday morning

In a story March 15 about an explosion and fire at a North Texas chemical plant, The Associated Press reported erroneously that a missing worker is named Dillon Mitchell.

Officials say the search for a missing worker following an explosion at a Texas chemical plant has been halted while crews clean up chemicals that are leaching from the plant.

A second injured person, whose injuries were not as serious, was taken to Lake Granbury Medical Center.

It wasn't immediately clear what types of chemicals are manufactured at the Tri-Chem Industries plant in Cresson, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southwest of Dallas.

Witnesses described what sounded like a "big kaboom" on Thursday morning, NBC Dallas-Forth Worth reported. They also saw fireballs shooting out of the building. People at a lumber yard that's next door were told to leave.

Republic is in north central Kansas, Morton is in the southwest corner, and Labette and Woodson are in the southeast corner. These population health frameworks provide a way to organize and measure community-wide efforts aimed at improving health.

Cornett said officials won't know what caused the explosion until the fire is out.

UPDATE: According to Cresson Mayor Cornett, investigators believe the fire was sparked after a worker "dragged his foot along the floor of the plant while chemicals were being mixed", NBC reported. Authorities said workers at the plant were special shoes to eliminate or reduce static discharge.

Tri-Chem Industries offers commercial chemical blending services for customers in Texas, Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region, according to its website.

A fire at a Texas chemical plant has critically injured one worker and another is missing.

The Environmental Protection Agency deployed an on-site co-ordinator to help monitor air emissions, spokesman David Gray said. Most recently, the Arkema chemical plant in Crosby had two explosions early in the morning on August 31, after having lost power for days following Hurricane Harvey's landfall. A berm has been built up surrounding the site of the plant, Cornett said.
