Trump will get the military parade he wanted - just not the tanks

Trump getting Washington military parade _ but no tanks

In a memo, it said tanks would not be involved to help limit damage to roads.

He had reportedly been impressed by a Bastille Day parade in Paris previous year, and declared: "We're going to have to try and top it".

The memo, obtained by CNN, detailed the plans for the parade.

The Veterans Day date means the parade will happen less than a week after election day, a day some have predicted will bring a "blue wave" of Democrats into office. The last time the United States saw such a parade was in the year 1991, when Saddam Hussein's Iraqi forces were thrown out of Kuwait in the Gulf War.

While the memo does not specify which aircraft will make up the aviation element, the instruction to seek out older aircraft may be a cost-mitigating measure.

The route will start at the White House and finish at the Capitol.

Jobs report surprise: 313000 added in February
Large businesses (500 or more employees) gained 70,000 jobs, and small businesses (one to 49 employees) 66,000 jobs, it said . The Fed is considered certain to raise rates when it next meets in two weeks.

The event will integrate with D.C.'s annual Veterans Day Parade and run from the White House to the Capitol, where the president will observe from a viewing area surrounded by veterans and Medal of Honor recipients, according to the memo.

The Pentagon memo was issued on Thursday and sent to Gen. Joseph Dunford Jr., chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, outlining the initial guidance of how Trump's desired parade, scheduled for November 11, will look, according to CNN.

The memo was sent Thursday to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, CNN reported. In addition to military equipment, the parade will include pageantry, with veterans dressed in period uniforms.

The last major parade in Washington was in 1991 after the Gulf War, when missiles and tanks moved through the streets of the capital. "But the generals would love to do it, I can tell you, and so would I", Trump told Fox News last month. Trump has sought a military-style parade since attending a Bastille Day parade in Paris with French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron.

Then, in July, Trump watched a Bastille Day celebration in Paris and days later called it "one of the most handsome parades I have ever seen", adding that "we should do one one day down Pennsylvania Ave".
