Iran to Le Drian: Missiles are for deterrence

UN Nuclear Watchdog: Iran-Accord Failure Would Be 'Great Loss'

Pointing to the "very bright prospect" for Tehran-Paris political and economic ties in the post-JCPOA era, Le Drian said new plans for stimulating monetary and banking interaction between France and Iran would be made public soon.

Zarif further accused the United States of failing to fulfill its commitments under the agreement.

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi, quoted by IRNA, said that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif "has always met on the sidelines of such global summits with attending personalities and elites ... in the framework of preserving Iranian interests".

On Saturday, Deputy Chief of Staff and Spokesman of Iran's Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazzayeri announced that Tehran will hold talks on its missile program only if the United States and European countries destroy their atomic warheads and long-range missiles.

President Donald Trump has set a May 12 ultimatum for the European signatories to change the agreement. Le Drian also will inaugurate an exhibition called "The Louvre in Tehran" at the Iranian National Museum.

Zarif emphasized that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is tasked with monitoring Iran's compliance with its nuclear-related commitments under the JCPOA, has verified the Islamic Republic's compliance with the deal in 10 reports.

As far as the Iranian regime is concerned, the deal has given it a breathing space, one with which to give its military the time it needs to work tirelessly towards a long-term project, which is to develop a nuclear-capable ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile), with the ability to strike the eastern seaboard of the United States.

Last year's $5 billion gas exploration deal with French energy giant Total was the biggest in Iran since the nuclear accord, and showed French firms were willing to stand up to pressure from Washington.

PA opioid overdose emergency room visits spiked 81 percent
The most recent information could disparage the overdoses, since numerous individuals who overdose never wind up in the crisis room.

"The condition for negotiations on Iran's missiles is the destruction of America's and Europe's nuclear weapons and long-range missiles", Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri told the official IRNA news agency.

Iranian officials have repeatedly said that the country's missile and nuclear programs are intended for defensive purposes and are non-negotiable as they are "for peaceful purposes".

Le Drian is to hold meetings with President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah is fighting alongside Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces.

According to the Iranian presidency's website, Rohani countered by telling Macron that countries selling weapons to Saudi Arabia and its allies must answer for "war crimes" being committed in Yemen.

Le Drian had been scheduled to visit Tehran earlier but postponed his trip after protests across Iran in late December and early January that saw at least 21 people killed.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday voiced his support for the 2015 nuclear deal which limited Iran's nuclear activities in returns for the uplift of western sanctions against Tehran.
