Cavaliers' Kevin Love comes forward about his battles with mental health

Cavs forward Kevin Love

Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Kevin Love left the team's November 5 loss to the Atlanta Hawks with what was described as an "illness" at the time, but on Tuesday the 29-year old admitted he was suffering from a panic attack that prompted him to address his mental health.

"On November 5th, right after halftime against the [Atlanta] Hawks, I had a panic attack", Love wrote in a piece for The Players' Tribune. I've played against DeMar for years, but I never could've guessed that he was struggling with anything. "I didn't even know if they were real", Love wrote. Love is now sidelined with a broken left hand. "Since that day, nearly everything about the way I think about my mental health has changed".

"Athletes in general are taught to step outside of their comfort zone in order to get better and reach their peak performance and this is another act of doing that", said Ayala. Love revealed he's regularly visiting a therapist and opening up about his life.

No story is the same, no pain is the same.

"Just by sharing what he shared, DeMar probably helped some people - and maybe a lot more people than we know - feel like they aren't insane or weird to be struggling with depression", Love wrote. I just never thought it was for me.

Not only did Love have a good reason for the events that led to the team meeting but he has one that allows the team to rally around him and further his standing as a team leader.

'The Bachelor' finale recap: Lauren forgives Arie, Becca becomes the Bachelorette
But now we're all like, "BYE BOY" because he has Lauren and we get to watch Becca hand out roses to a slew of eligible bachelors . But don't worry future husband, I'll love and accept you just the way you are. 'There was a better and more tactful way to do it.

He sensed something was wrong immediately when he realized he was out of breath after the first few Cavaliers possessions.

As I wait for my duty as Daddy, my thumb moves up and down searching for a tweet that catches my eye.

"So if you're reading this and you're having a hard time, no matter how big or small it seems to you, I want to remind you that you're not weird or different for sharing what you're going through", he wrote.

Look, I don't want to speak above my non-existent qualifications here, but I know this.

At some point it occurred to me that giving a five-minute speech in front of a few dozen people I knew in college almost crippled me, but I could walk up to a professional athlete in some stage of undress at his locker and ask him a question that was probably only important to me without breaking a sweat.

If you've ever experienced mental illness, talk about it and be open. It's here as I type, wondering who might read this and immediately think less of me. So for 29 years of my life, I followed that playbook.
