E-cigarettes deliver cancer-causing chemicals

E-Cigarette Use Exposes Teens to Toxic Chemicals

Research published this week in the journal Pediatrics finds that teens who only smoke tobacco-based cigarettes such as Marlboro and Camel brands have the highest levels of cancer-causing chemicals present in their bodies.

"Although e-cigarette vapor may be less hazardous than tobacco smoke, our findings can be used to challenge the idea that e-cigarette vapor is safe, because numerous volatile organic compounds we identified are carcinogenic", the study read.

The researchers also told,"The presence of harmful ingredients in e-cigarette vapor has been established‍; we can now say that these chemicals are found in the body of human adolescents who use these products".

While some regard e-cigarettes or vaping as a safer alternative to smoking, the study says vaping is still poisonous ‎and fruity flavors popular with teens appear to be the worst.

"E-cigarettes are widely promoted as a smoking cessation aid, but for most people, they actually make it harder to quit smoking, so most people end up as so-called "dual users" who keep smoking while using e-cigarettes", said Stanton Glantz, lead author of the latter study, in a statement.

The fight to get teens to not use e-cigarettes isn't any easy one because manufacturers are marketing some e-cigarettes to kids, like Juul, and then making specific flavors just for them as well.

Adolescents who smoke e-cigarettes are exposed to significant levels of potentially cancer-causing chemicals also found in tobacco cigarettes, even when the e-cigarettes do not contain nicotine, according to a study by UC San Francisco researchers.

In fact that information is part of the presentations they give to teens at local high schools. "Teenagers should be inhaling air, not products with toxins in them".

Former Oakland Raiders EDGE Aldon Smith checks into rehab
He was later signed by Oakland - and is now still under contract with Raiders organization - but hasn't played since 2015. Smith has been on the suspended list since November 2015 for violating the NFL's policy on substance abuse.

Other teams have found other potentially cancer-causing chemicals in e-cigarette vapor, including diacetyl, the chemical blamed for causing "Popcorn lung" in workers at microwave popcorn packaging plants.

The same CDC report found that only 2.2 percent of middle-schoolers and eight percent of high-schoolers had smoked traditional cigarettes in the past 30 days.

The relatively small study tested 67 teenagers who reported vaping, compared to 16 teens who both vape and smoke traditional tobacco cigarettes.

After the 2016 CDC report was released, the president of the American Academy of Pediatrics Dr Benard Dreyer called the increasing rates of e-cigarette use among youths a "major public health concern".

GOING VAPE? More than a million adults use e-cigs to stop smoking - but is vaping safe?

"Electronic cigarettes generate nicotine in the vapor".

'Moreover, numerous teens in my practice tell me that they feel e-cigarettes are safe and only produce "water vapor"'.
