Allscripts Launches EHR-Integrated Lyft Transportation Service

Lyft expands its footprint in health care

On Monday, Lyft announced a new partnership with Allscripts, a large electronic health record company that reaches an estimate 7 million patients. With Uber Health, healthcare organizations can see the exact route taken, the pickup and drop off locations, and the time the ride was taken. It's somewhat of literally the last mile, or the last lock of health care, getting the patient involved and making it easier for patients to get to appointments.

Ultimately, the goal with Uber Health is to hopefully reduce the number of no-show appointments - something that's exacerbated by people who can't get a ride to the doctor, the firm says.

Of those demographics, one in four lower-income people miss or reschedule their appointments due to lack of transportation.

The EHR-integrated functionality will be available to clinicians through Allscripts' Open platform. "And soon after, we'll eliminate transportation barriers to health care altogether", Lyft's chief business officer David Baga said.

Allscripts Sunrise EHR supports clinicians in inpatient, ambulatory, and emergency care settings, among others. Doctors and hospitals that use Allscripts can request Lyft rides for their patients.

When patients schedule appointments, Allscripts system would ask if they need transportation.

Navy aircraft carrier set for historic port visit to Vietnam
Marines arrived in Danang in 1965, marking the beginning of large-scale American involvement in the Vietnam War. John Fuller, the strike group commander, said in a statement.

Writer Susan Morse posted an article several days ago that discussed how Uber seems to be digging in their heels when it comes to the provider ride business.

"Health IT should always put the patient first and this partnership is representative of Allscripts commitment to connecting communities and helping providers deliver services their patients need", said Allscripts CEO Paul Black.

Uber, now the world's largest ride-sharing company, is partnering with various healthcare organizations to offer rides to and from healthcare facilities.

There is an "emerging consensus" that ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft contribute significantly to congestion on urban streets, according to a researcher at Northwestern University.

The service is similarly an effort to address social determinants of health related to transportation problems.

The ride cost for the patients will be covered by the health care providers. These rides can be booked at the time of need or up to one month in advance. Additionally, home healthcare services have taken advantage of Uber Health, using the rise-sharing service for staff to go to and from a patient's home.
