Sanders, Lee and Murphy Try to Pull US Out of Yemen War

Yemen war: senators push to end US support of Saudi Arabia

At a news conference on Wednesday, Sanders argued: "We believe that, as Congress has not declared war or authorized military force in this conflict, the USA involvement in Yemen is unconstitutional and unauthorized".

The provision allows any US senator to introduce a resolution to withdraw from a conflict that has not been authorized by Congress.

"Many Americans are also not aware that United States forces have been actively involved in support of the Saudis in this war, providing intelligence and aerial refuelling of planes, whose bombs have killed thousands of people and made this crisis far worse".

"Every 10 minutes, a child under the age of five dies of preventable causes in Yemen", Sanders noted on Twitter.

USA support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen is under scrutiny from an anti-establishment coalition of conservative and progressive lawmakers led by Sens. Overall, more than 10,000 civilians have died and more than 40,000 have been injured over the course of this war.

Lee said lawmakers must address the use of military force "conflict by conflict", instead of a broad new bill.

Under the United States constitution, the president can not declare war without the approval of Congress.

Family members receive Graham's body at library named after him
It will be a tribute to the 1949 Los Angeles tent revivals that made Graham famous, said family spokesman Mark DeMoss. Crowds lined up to see Billy Graham's funeral motorcade bring his casket from Asheville to Charlotte on Saturday.

Under the War Powers Resolution of 1973, the assignment of a member of the United States Armed Forces to "command, coordinate, participate in the movement of, or accompany" another country's military during a war constitutes the introduction of U.S. Armed Forces into a conflict.

White insisted she is confident there's some sort of authorization for the war, but also said she didn't want to comment specifically on the legislation itself. "The time is long overdue for Congress to reassert its constitutional authority", Sanders said in a television address on Wednesday. "That law guarantees a vote on the Senate floor within days".

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) called out the administration of President Donald Trump on Wednesday for its continued participation in the brutal war being waged in Yemen.

"It can authorise - or decline to authorise - military engagement and define U.S. national interests", Lee said.

The United Nations has said the almost three-year civil war has created one of the worst manmade humanitarian disasters, as millions of Yemenis have been displaced and the population faces starvation with aid agencies struggling to supply assistance.

"For three years the United States and Saudi Arabia have been waging a secretive war, triggering the worst humanitarian crisis in the world", said Ruffalo in a video posted to his various social media platforms. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Mark Pocan (D-Wis.), Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Walter Jones (R-N.C.), has 50 cosponsors in the House.
