PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games come to an end

Kirill Kaprizov scored the game-winner as "Team Olympic Athlete From Russia" came back to beat underdog Germany 4-3 in overtime to put a thrilling end to a men's tournament lacking buzz not only in South Korea but back in North America, where the National Hockey League season went on during the games for the first time since 1994.

In the frantic end to normal time, Nikita Gusev put OAR 2-1 ahead with less than seven minutes remaining, only for Germany to equalise 10 seconds later through Dominik Kahun.

The Russian hockey squad, which won Olympic gold in a tight, nerve-racking overtime game against Germany, defied the IOC ban at the awards ceremony and sang the words of the national anthem over the Olympic Hymn.

During a numerical advantage, midway extension, Kaprizov has agreed to a nice discount from Nikita Gusev to take a shot on accurate reception that has deceived the vigilance of the goalkeeper of the German Danny Aus Den Birken.

The entire "Olympic Athletes from Russia" saga has been an awkward storyline in Pyeongchang, and things got even stranger Sunday morning. Constantly saying it doesn't matter that they had to wear nondescript red and white uniforms that lacked the Russian Coat of Arms, players gave the Russians their second gold and 17th total medal of the Olympics. The silver medal is the country's best finish at the Olympics, and their run to the final and near victory made for one of the greatest stories in Olympic hockey history.

The team's assistant captain Ilya Kovalchuk said the players had discussed beforehand whether to sing the anthem if they were to win, and they agreed they would.

Gusev had two goals and two assists.

Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce Resigns From Cabinet, Remains in Parliament
As SBS notes, he will also lose his position as Infrastructure and Transport minister upon his move to the backbench. Joyce, through a spokesman, denied those allegations. "I have asked that that be referred to the police", he said.

The victory on the ice came hours after the International Olympic Committee voted not to reinstate Team Russia for Sunday night's closing ceremony. Pavel Datsyuk said after the game, "It feels good to have accomplished my dream. Now I have no dream".

That means the Russians will again march under the "Olympic Athletes from Russia" name and the Olympic flag.

Off the post-goal faceoff, Germany almost negated their tally, though, as Patrick Reimer was tagged for hooking, sending OAR to their second power play of the outing. "We didn't win Olympics since '92", Kovalchuk said.

Vyacheslav Voinov had given OAR the lead in the first period before Felix Schutz drew Germany level.

Olympic hockey gold has been elusive for more than two decades for Russian Federation, a country that takes particular pride in the sport.

It wasn't quite the happy ending that Germany was likely hoping for after their momentous upset of Canada, but a silver medal is a fine result for a country that doesn't have a proud tradition of winning hockey.
