Bortles Signs Extension With Jaguars

NFL analysts react to Blake Bortles reported extension with the Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced their major move of signing quarterback Blake Bortles to a lucrative three-year extension that could be worth up to $66.5 million over the duration of the deal.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan gave contract extensions to personnel chief Tom Coughlin, general manager Dave Caldwell and coach Doug Marrone on Friday that carry through 2021.

The Jaguars, led by Bortles, went 10-6 and won the AFC South last season. His team was darn close to making it to the AFC Championship Game, and the Jags didn't lose to the New England Patriots because he played poorly. Is it realistic to expect that with another year under Nathaniel Hackett-with, potentially, more weapons around him and with his wrist healthier after offseason surgery-that Bortles could do better than his 21 touchdown, 13 interception season in 2018? Yes.

"Blake's growth and development last season was a key to the success we had as a team", said Tom Coughlin, the Jaguars' executive vice president of football operations.

According to the Florida Times-Union, Bortles' contract is likely to lower his 2018 cap hit, allowing the Jaguars more maneuverability under the cap in order to re-sign players and plug the holes on their roster.

The attorney, Alex van der Zwaan, the son-in-law of one of Russia's richest men, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Washington , D.C., to a charge of lying to the Special Counsel's office.

The ever important guaranteed money is set at $26.5 million. The Jags sent a strong message by locking up Bortles weeks before free agency.

They know a lot more about football than you and me and every guy on the Internet screaming at their computer that Bortles isn't worth the risk.

This deal will help the Jaguars immensely moving forward and becomes a total steal if Bortles takes another step forward this fall.

"I have said it all along: I think Blake is one of the toughest people I have ever met, and I'm talking about his mental and physical toughness", Marrone said.

For his career, Bortles has thrown for 14,928 yards and completed 59.1 percent of his passes with 90 touchdowns and 64 interceptions. Bortles never had Robinson last season after he tore his ACL on his first catch in the opener at Houston. "He is an ultimate competitor and will do whatever he can to help the team win".
