Indicted Missouri governor to skip DC meeting

Senator calls on Missouri House speaker to begin impeachment process of Greitens

The Republican Governors Association says Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens is stepping down from the group's executive committee following his indictment stemming from an extramarital affair.

He is stepping down from the group's executive committee.

Yesterday Greitens was indicted by a grand jury in St. Louis. The indictment alleges Greitens took a compromising photo of a woman without her consent during their affair in March 2015. The indictment accuses Greitens of blindfolding and tying up a woman with whom he was having a consensual affair, and then taking her picture without her consent-and threatening to release the naked photograph if she ever spoke publicly about the affair.

"In my 40 years of representing the public here and representing personal litigates, I have never seen anything like this in my life", said Dowd.

In a statement, Greitens called the indictment a "misguided political decision" by a "reckless liberal prosecutor". "I don't know under any circumstance the governor is going to plead guilty to this", stated Benjamin McBride, a local attorney and adjunct professor at Evangel University. "Missourians should see this for what it is, a political hit job".

During his campaign, Greitens portrayed himself as a family man, saying in his announcement: "I'm a Navy SEAL, native Missourian and most importantly, a proud husband and father". He was released on a personal recognizance bond. He is due back in court March 16, before Circuit Judge Rex Burlison.

Leaders of the Missouri House plan their own investigation. His attorney later released a statementcalling the charges "baseless and unfounded". The Governor is absolutely innocent. This whole investigation is completely unusual. The statute of limitations for invasion of privacy in Missouri is three years. She says Greitens' legal team requested a "secret" meeting involving only attorneys to share what they called the "human" side of Greitens' story.

The Missouri GOP's criticism of the indictment stands in stark contrast to the dozens of GOP lawmakers now calling for Greitens to resign.

Mueller Brings More Charges Against Manafort, Gates
The charges against van der Zwana was launched on February 16 in Federal court in Washington. This was done by the systematic denigrating of Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton.

As for Greitens' fate, Conway was among the first who called on him to consider resigning. She said it "will be extremely hard for him to effectively do his job with a felony indictment hanging over his head".

While several state lawmakers are calling for Greitens to resign, or are eager for an investigation that could lead to his impeachment, there's a chance this will play out in November's midterm elections, when Missouri voters will have a chance to weigh in on the state of the Republican Party.

"We will carefully examine the facts contained in the indictment and answer the question as to whether or not the governor can lead our state while a felony case moves forward", Richardson said, The Hill reported.

Greitens previously admitted to an affair that started in 2015. Greitens has admitted to the affair but denies any crime was committed. Greitens and GOP lawmakers have often clashed, with him comparing some to third-graders and labeling them "career politicians".

Meanwhile, state Democrats appear to be of one mind, said state Sen. He also faces a fine to not exceed $5,000, a year in county jail or a combination of fine and imprisonment. He responded to a Democratic attack ad in the fall of 2016 with one of his own in which he fired more than 100 rounds from a machine gun as an announcer declared he'd bring out "the big guns" to fight Democratic policies championed by then-President Barack Obama. State Senators Doug Libla R-Bulter and Gary Romine R-Ste.

Audience members say the indictment never came up.

That's not yet clear, though the woman's ex-husband was subpoenaed to testify before the grand jury.

"The good stuff doesn't get sensationalized", Kartsonis says. "It is clear the governor can not lead effectively while defending himself against this criminal charge".
