Turkey won't stop Operation Olive Branch in Syria

Turkey calls on Washington to take steps against PKK

Turkish troops entered Syria on January 20 to expel Kurdish YPG fighters from the border area, viewing them as an extension of the Kurdish PKK separatist group that Turkey has fought for decades.

A pro-Syrian government convoy that attempted to enter Afrin has been met by Turkish artillery fire, forcing it to retreat, a spokesperson for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said.

Last month, Turkey also launched a military operation in the northern Syrian district of Afrin against the US-backed Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which is regarded by Ankara a organization affiliated with the PKK. Unfortunately, terrorist groups like these sometimes make missteps according to their own decisions.

However, the United States has supported the YPG to combat the Islamic State in Syria.

PM inaugurates UP Investors Summit
Aditya Birla group will invest about Rs25,000 crore in the state across sectors over the next five years, he said. The event aims at attracting investment in Uttar Pradesh and making it an ideal destination for investment.

Nauert said Tillerson and Erdogan made a commitment to one another during the meeting and both Washington and Ankara recognized that the two countries had not worked well enough together over the past few years.

The deployment of the Popular Forces militia "increases the risk of a direct Syrian-Turkish confrontation, which adds another layer of complexity to the Syrian crisis", said Sami Nader, head of the Beirut-based Levant Institute for Strategic Affairs. Currently, the PKK advocates for democratic confederalism within Turkey.

Reuters reports Turkish forces have reached several kilometers into Syria, but the YPG still holds most of Afrin including its central town.

His comments came as Turkey's military is carrying out a cross-border offensive in Syria to clear a border enclave of Syrian Kurdish rebels.
