Nigeria Boko Haram: Schoolgirls escape militant attack

Boko Haram Attacks Girls' School In Yobe

A convoy of fighters in pickup trucks descended on Dapchi village in the Bursari area of Yobe state around 6 pm (1700 GMT) targeting the school, resident Sheriff Aisami told AFP.

The Yobe state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulmaliki Sumonu revealed that there has so far not been any report of abduction of any of the girls in the school.

"The details are not known yet because it's already night, we will get the comprehensive details tomorrow", he said.

The attack comes four years after Boko Haram kidnapped more than 270 girls from a school in the town of Chibok.

Recall that in April 2014, the sect abducted 276 girls from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State.

The insurgents invaded the school Monday night at about 7pm.

Both the South and North appear to be tip-toeing around these issues during the period of the Pyeongchang Olympics, he said. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis would announce their plans after the Paralympics end March 18 and before April.

"There were no soldiers at the time of the invasion". We saw some people pushing some of the students to enter their vehicles.

"We were in the mosque when the Boko Haram gunmen came into the town".

According to the residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the terrorists carted away food items from the stores of the Government Girls College, Dapchi, and petrol from hawkers, who abandoned their products to run for safety. According to the accounts of some of my mates, the Boko Haram told those that were caught in the mosque to sit on the floor, including our teachers.

This happened as more than 200 people were convicted in Nigeria on charges related to their involvement with militant Islamist group Boko Haram, the justice ministry said on Monday. All of us that escaped including our school principal, the vice principal and some other teachers stayed in the deserted house till morning.

"We can not say, because the insurgents went into the students' hostel, and many of these students scaled the fence and escaped into the bushes".

"They came to ask some of us that could not flee if there are soldiers in the village and we told them "no".
