Android Pay, Google Wallet get the chop in favour of Google Pay
Of course, Google Assistant is expected to feature prominently in the new OS, too as Google pushed further into the virtual assistant market.
Android phone users now can find the Google Pay app on the Google Play store.
Google has begun rolling out its united payments platform, which brings Android Pay and Google Wallet together under one brand.
In fact, uniting the two platforms isn't entirely complete, with Google Wallet's peer-to-peer payments continuing as a separate app called Google Pay Send - a rebrand of the Google Wallet app, though the company is promising an integrated experience in the U.S. and the United Kingdom will be coming in "the next few months". It's similar to the automatic email responses that Google introduced in Gmail Inbox and rolled into the official Gmail app.
The new Google Pay app is part of Google's wider plan to bring mobile payment capabilities to every part of the Google environment, according to Gerardo Capiel, product management director for consumer payments, and Varouj Chitilian, engineering director for consumer payments. To enhance the novelty and utility of the Tez, Google has now made the Bill payments live for the users. Apple added Apple Pay to its MacOS operating system in 2016 - although it requires a connected iPhone or Apple Watch. Meaning, even in an idle state, apps will think that they are recording, but in reality, they will be saving junk data.
Partygoer accused of stealing thumb from $4.5 million 'cultural treasure'
The man left the room, but not before snapping off one of the statues' fingers, which he then placed in his coat's pocket. China's official news agency Xinhua reported Rohana admitted to authorities he had the thumb piece in a desk drawer.
Mr Chen Way Siew, Google's payments partnerships lead for South Asia-Pacific, told Channel NewsAsia in an email that customers will be able to use Google Pay wherever Android Pay, its predecessor, is accepted. More than 70 utilities and direct-to-home services are on board to accept bill payments, and the feature will roll out to users over the next few weeks. This includes reward cards, debit cards, credit cards, and gift cards.
Google Pay works for transit fares in Kiev, London, and Portland at the moment, with more cities promised to come soon. So, users have no idea when their camera is under the control of a hacker or notorious apps.
"Despite much publicity upon launch, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Android Pay have struggled to gain traction", the report said.
This is not the first time Google is trying to make Android more secure for its users. "Mobile wallet adoption has been underwhelming to date by almost every objective standard, including initial penetration of smartphone users and repeat usage rate".
