Freestyle skiing: gold for Cassie Sharpe half-moon

Canada's Cassie Sharpe takes top spot in women's halfpipe qualifying in Pyeongchang

That run gave Martinod her second straight Olympic silver medal in what will likely be one of the final contests of her career.

Sharpe, the top qualifier for the event's final, posted the best first run of the three-run final with a 94.40, followed by Martinod with 92.20 and Sigourney's 89.80.

Watching her good friend Annalisa Drew bump her off the Olympic podium with her last run made Brita Sigourney sick to her stomach.

In each run, attempting back-to-back 900s, she fell coming out of the last 900. Her most recent gold came at the 2018 X-Games in superpipe, it was the 10th X-Games appearance in Bowman's impressive career.

She'd talked about the possibility of that victory lap a day earlier, confident she could repeat her qualifying success. When she bailed midway through her final run, assuring Sharpe of gold, she laughed and raised her hands. Her ability to blend progressive tricks with big amplitude and smooth execution turned her into the odds-on favorite for halfpipe gold in her Olympic debut.

"That's something we are really proud of", said Moir. She's going for her second gold medal at the Olympics - something is working right!

"On my first run I just really wanted to land, that's like my biggest thing for my confidence".

"When you've got your hard-as-nails coach up top in tears, it's kind of hard to zone into what you're doing", Sharpe said.

Influenza B Making a Surge in the United States
The CDC called this flu season the worst in years, adding that any degree of protection with a vaccine is better than none. Most flu seasons start in the Southeast, in states like Florida, then move north and west.

"It didn't really go as well as I would have hoped", said Logan, 2014 Olympic ski halfpipe silver medalist.

"At the point, I'm like, "oh my God stop hugging me" because I'm going to cry and I need to focus and reel into this", she said.

Canada has two skiers in the final, with Rosalind Groenewoud of Calgary finishing eleventh overall and is competing with a broken arm.

The 25-year-old Canadian was getting over four metres of air on some tricks.

"It means so much to have their support, their love", said Sharpe.

Sharpe, a skier since childhood, rode her first halfpipe in 2012 and by 2015, had announced herself as one of the most technical skiers to ever drop into a women's halfpipe competition.

Blouin suffered a head injury when she fell during training for the women's slopestyle on February 9, but went on to win a silver medal in that event.

"I feel really confident, this pipe is wonderful", said Sharpe, who won two World Cup events this season and is making her Olympic debut.
