Winter storm on the way for the Northeast

Rain ends Friday night, but who sees snow on Saturday?

We could see some lowland snow - if precipitation arrives during the coldest hours this weekend.

The National Weather Service is forecasting for "the coldest temperatures of this winter", and the possibility of snow starting this Saturday night, February 17.

The heaviest snow is expected away from the coast - west of Washington, D.C.; west of Philadelphia; north of New York City; and west of Boston, where 7 inches could accumulate locally.

Saturday afternoon: A chance of rain between 2 and 4 p.m., then rain and snow.

During the approaching storm, the weather service is urging the public to "Plan on hard travel conditions". About an inch is possible. A pretty small range - but included in those seven measly degrees is a huge range of potential weather conditions, from snow to sleet to freezing rain to rain.

Antonio Conte delivers injury update on key Chelsea FC duo
But I think after the break we didn't need to speak about that game. I will continue to do this for the rest of the season. In one year and a half we built a great mentality.

In addition, given that this will be more of a heavy, wet snow some isolated power outages can not be ruled out. 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected. Little or no ice accumulation expected.

Temperatures will quickly climb above freezing on Sunday allowing for rapid melting. The snow threat will wrap up by Sunday morning. In the evening, temperatures will drop back into the 20s with winds from the north at 10-15 miles per hour. Light snow in the morning will taper off and sunshine will increase through the afternoon. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

But wait - today's forecast from the National Weather Service is calling for partly cloudy skies and highs in the low-40s. It will be wet with rain showers for a big part of the week. But computer models are in lockstep an accumulation of 2 to 3 inches is likely in western Whatcom County.

Many areas will be dry, but places that got snow or rain during the day might well have wet pavement by Sunday evening.
