Federal Bureau of Investigation was warned about Florida gunman

Leader of a white nationalist group says Florida shooter was member

While the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) continued its investigation into the fatal shooting attack at a Parkland, Florida, high school on 14 February 2018, a YouTube user from MS revealed that he had an online brush with someone with the same name as the suspected gunman.

Lasky said there was no information that would "indicate a particular time, location, or the true identity of the person who posted the comment".

The video blogger says he took a screen grab, flagged the comment and notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation and YouTube which removed the comment. I wish I could've given him more information but it was just a comment on my channel, a generic name - the person's name - and they think it was related so they came out to talk to me.

He said he doesn't remember which video Cruz made the comment, and authorities have not confirmed whether the person who made the comment is the same Nikolas Cruz accused in the Parkland school shooting.

The FBI Thursday said it investigated but wasn't able to confirm the person who posted the comment was indeed the shooter. They contacted him immediately, according to CNN.

Facebook Losing Young Users To Rival Snapchat In UK
But outside of the main players, younger people adopted other platforms such as Musical.ly, Twitch.tv, Live.me, Line and WeChat. Facebook has tried to stem an exodus to Snapchat with measures such as a new version of its Messenger app for children.

The FBI was not commenting on Thursday morning, CBS News' Andy Triay reports.

How and why that comment ended up on Bennight's Youtube page on September 25, 2017, is still a mystery to the bondsman.

Bennight told Pegues he spoke with the FBI Wednesday night again for about 20 minutes. The FBI's special agent in charge of the investigation, Rob Lasky, confirmed that the agency had been alerted to a posting on YouTube late past year by a Nikolas Cruz, bragging... "I didn't", Bennight told BuzzFeed.

Cruz was expelled from the school previous year for fighting and was known for posting "menacing social media posts", according to USA Today.

Noting that he doesn't know exactly what it takes for the FBI to investigate these sorts of tips, Bennight acknowledged that "had more time and effort been put into finding out who the username belongs to, . they may have been able to find out who this person was and put him on their radar".
