18 killed in deadliest Hong Kong bus crash since 2003

At least 19 dead after bus topples over in Hong Kong

The driver of a double-decker bus that overturned in Hong Kong killing at least 18 people and injuring more than 60 was arrested on Saturday evening for risky driving, police said.

The Hospital Authority said 19 people were in a serious condition.

Footage from the scene showed firefighters cutting through the windows and roof to free dozens of trapped passengers.

The paper reports that 37 people were taken to 12 different hospitals, while there are efforts ongoing to rescue two more people stuck on the bus.

The dead included 15 males and three females, police said.

36 indicted in global cybercrime ring that stole $530M
Rybicki said over a seven-year period the organization cost U.S financial institutions upwards of $530 million. Infraud members " operated like a business to facilitate cyberfraud on a global scale ", Cronan said.

Hong Kong implemented guidelines in 2010 that limit drivers' shifts to 14 hours total and 11 hours behind the wheel, but officials said after a crash a year ago that more wide-reaching policies would be necessary to improve safety and working conditions, the Times reports.

The bus was running a special route for race days, but the bus' operator says the driver knew the route and had a good driving record. And then it was like the tyres slipped and the bus turned.

While bodies of dead passengers were laid out on the ground, covered in white sheets. Passengers suggested the bus was speeding downhill at the time, and the driver appeared to be upset after he was told off for being late.

He said the franchise bus company would pay $10,000 to each injured person and family of the deceased.

In 2003, 21 died and 20 were injured in the worst road traffic accident in Hong Kong history when a KMB double decker bus crashed through a guardrail and down a hill off Tuen Man Road after colliding with a truck.
