Boston Herald pulls 'fake' story about Tom Brady wanting more money

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in action against the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl 52 on Sunday

On the heels of the San Francisco 49ers making quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo the highest-paid player in the National Football League with his new five-year, $137.5 million deal, the Boston Herald's Ron Borges reported via unnamed sources close to Tom Brady that the Patriots QB was ready to sit out all of this year's offseason organized team activities unless he got a comparable deal to what his old backup got.

This is not the first time Borges has been handed down a suspension from a Boston-based publication.

Garoppolo signed a five-year deal worth $137.5 million to remain the quarterback in San Francisco.

Borges was reportedly duped by a WEEI listener via text.

Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston's reported that Brady's reported demand is inaccurate.

The caller claimed he sent a text message to Borges claiming to be Brady and Garoppolo's agent, Don Yee, Nick in Boston said on the show that it was relatively easy to get this message over to Borges. It's no longer available online.

Borges apparently thought his source for the story was Brady's agent Don Yee.

The Boston Herald has pulled Borges' column off its website and says it is investigating the matter.

The Herald's Ron Borges posted an article on Thursday night saying Brady was ready to sit out OTAs if the Patriots didn't give him a big raise this offseason, citing multiple sources.
