36 indicted in global cybercrime ring that stole $530M

Justice Dept. charges 36 alleged scammers for $530 million cyber-fraud scheme

The US Justice department has filed an indictment in the US District Court against Australian Edgar "Guapo" Rojas and 35 others, describing it as one of its largest cyberfraud prosecutions.

Law enforcement agencies around the world have shut down what they claim was one of the world's biggest cyber crime rings, behind as much as $530 million in consumer losses across the world.

Infraud members "operated like a business to facilitate cyberfraud on a global scale", Cronan said.

Of the 36 people indicted, Justice Department officials said that 13 have been arrested in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Kosovo and Serbia. Department of Justice officials have filed charges against 36 people allegedly involved with Infraud Organization (no really, that's the name), a global cybercrime ring with roots in the United States as well as numerous other countries.

The group also provided an escrow service to facilitate digital currency transactions among its members, according to the government.

Beyond the aforementioned seven countries in which suspects were arrested, other countries in which alleged Infraud operators are based include Bangladesh, Canada, Egypt, Italy, Ivory Coast, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Pakistan and Russian Federation.

Bondarkeno's whereabouts are unknown; he went missing in 2015, according to the indictment.

It is, in other words, a carding group that peddles lists of stolen credit and debit card data - pilfered from servers, vendor databases, and payment terminal hardware - and serves as an educational resource for tricks of the trade.

Founded in 2010 by Ukranian Svyatoslav Bondarenko, Infraud operated in the form of a message board, with people buying and selling credit card details, US Social Security numbers, birthdays, and passwords from internet users all over the world.

Malware: Malicious software for compromising PCs, mobile devices and point-of-sale terminals. The underground forum, accessible on the dark web, had 10,901 registered members as of March 2017. At the organization's top were administrators who collectively controlled its destiny and seeded it with sellers who had a reputation for delivering illicit goods of high quality. According to the indictment, "Infraud leadership routinely policed the forum for rippers, disciplining them to protect the general membership".

The Infraud organization online site now resolves to this takedown notice.

Rybicki said over a seven-year period the organization cost U.S financial institutions upwards of $530 million.
