Quentin Tarantino Calls Uma Thurman's Car Crash a 'Horrendous Mistake'

Quentin Tarantino has been criticised for defending disgraced director Roman Polanski in a resurfaced clip

Quentin Tarantino has responded to Uma Thurman's powerful interview with The New York Times over the weekend in which she revealed she was involved in a horrific vehicle crash while filming Kill Bill.

Tarantino told Deadline that they've worked past everything and are now "fantastic friends" once again.

In the Deadline interview, Tarantino talks about the day of the crash in detail, recalling driving himself on the road to make sure there were no irregularities prior to shooting. He knew that the article was on its way-and even helped Thurman obtain the footage used in the article-but didn't expect the response to it and put most of the blame on Maureen Dowd, who wrote the article. In a Monday post, she shared the crash footage and wrote that Tarantino "was deeply regretful and remains remorseful about this sorry event".

Thurman did the stunt that left her seriously injured.

In the tape that was recovered, Tarantino was saying to Stern that the young woman "wanted it" and that "she knew what she was getting herself into".

The route was eventually changed because the sun was starting to set.

Unfortunately, the drive was altered at the last minute and, even though Tarantino had tested the road himself, they chose to have Thurman drive the other way.

She said she was finally given footage of the crash by Tarantino this year after being denied it by Kill Bill producer Harvey Weinstein for 15 years.

When we think of Quentin Tarantino and his body of work, thoughts often turn to Uma Thurman. THE COVER UP after the fact is UNFORGIVABLE. for this i hold Lawrence Bender, E. Bennett Walsh, and the notorious Harvey Weinstein exclusively responsible. they lied, destroyed evidence, and continue to lie about the permanent harm they caused and then chose to suppress. the cover up did have malicious intent, and shame on these three for all eternity. "I hope they look after other clients more respectfully if they in fact want to do the job for which they take money with any decency". But Thurman pointed out that it was not a regular road, it was sand, which also made driving hard. Tarantino also spit in the actresses face and choked her for the movie, per Thurman. He added that "I couldn't have respected Uma more during the making of" Kill Bill.

Quentin Tarantino defended fellow director Roman Polanski for statutory rape in a newly resurfaced 2003 interview, saying the 13-year-old girl was dating Mr. Polanski and was "down to party" at the time.

"He had sex with a minor - that's not rape. It's like throwing the word 'racist" around. It doesn't apply to everything people use it for ... Now, I love Michael, he's a terrific actor, but I didn't trust him with this kind of intricate work, of nailing this. I start hearing from the production manager, Bennett Walsh, that Uma is trepidatious about doing the driving shot.

"How can you defend-see I don't understand this", Stern began.

In her account of events, Thurman told Maureen Dowd of The New York Times that the auto had undergone alterations and, according to a teamster, was not necessarily working well.

Saturday's issue of the New York Times published a lengthy admission from actress Uma Thurman that she was also a victim of Harvey Weinstein's sexually-devious behaviour.
