National Wear Red Day raises awareness for heart disease

American Heart Association Wants Women To “Go Red” On Friday

The reason? To highlight what health experts say is the number one killer of women: heart disease.

In addition to joining together to wear red, faculty and staff of Harbor Country Day made donations to the American Heart Association, which will help fund the organization's activities to support awareness, research, education and community programs to benefit women.

You can also shop at Macy's and pick up a Red Dress pin.

Because Friday is National Wear Red Day and here's everything you need to know about the event.

More than 800,000 people in the US die from heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases each year. All proceeds go to Go Red for Women.
