Pierre Agnes: Quiksilver surfwear boss missing at sea

Quiksilver CEO Pierre Agnès is lost at sea

A search was under way on Tuesday (Jan 30) for the chief executive of surfing brand Quiksilver after his boat was found empty, washed up on a beach in south-west France, officials said.

"An air-sea rescue is underway in coordination with the Atlantic Maritime Prefect, who is responsible for sea rescue operations", said the prefecture of the Landes district.

Agnes sent a message to port authorities indicating that he was delaying his return because of thick fog.

French authorities have deployed boats and helicopters after Pierre Agnes' 11-metre Mascaret III speedboat was found on the beach on Tuesday in nearby Hossegor.

The French coastguard have been unable to determine whether Mr Agnès was alone on the boat.
