Controversial football league XFL set to return in 2020

He says that this version of the XFL will "Deliver a fan-centric, innovative experience, including shorter, fast paced games and a family-friendly environment, complimented by cross-platform viewing option and real-time fan engagement". The new version will have eight teams, like the first XFL, with a 10-game schedule.

"Every city is on our radar", he said, adding that it only makes sense for the XFL to land in cities where "they play football".

McMahon will be the only owner of all the league's teams, and said players will not be able to make political statements while on the field. He also said the league will consider the "quality of human being" when inviting players to the league.

McMahon didn't come right out and guarantee that players would be required to stand for the national anthem, but said the rules will be made public and players will know the XFL's rules if a mandate to stand during the anthem is included.

"We want someone who does not have any criminality associated with them whatsoever".

Rumours of the XFL's return started late past year when it emerged that Vince had taken $100 million of his own money out of WWE and put it into a new venture, the parent company of the new XFL "Alpha Entertainment". "We didn't give ourselves enough time to put together [teams that could] actually play good football", he said.

He also suggested cheerleaders wouldn't be a part of the XFL, telling ESPN's Darren Rovell in an interview: "But we aren't going to have much of what the XFL had, including the cheerleaders, who aren't really part of the game anymore".

Jerome Powell to succeed Janet Yellen as next chairman of Federal Reserve
In November 2017, President Trump nominated Powell, known as a "soft-spoken centrist", as the next head of the US Federal Reserve .

McMahon said the XFL would be "Football reimagined". We're not going to have any social issues involved.

"The landscape for sports and entertainment has changed dramatically, I think you could argue, in McMahon's favor", Carter said, as digital media companies now compete to stream sports and young people become turned off by the length of games.

The XFL recently returned to pop-culture discussion due to ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary This Was the XFL.

McMahon says he will have an open forum for fans to contribute ideas to the new league. In addition, McMahon stated that the league would be a single entity and would not use the franchise model. The league collapsed after just one season, with NBC and the WWF losing tens of millions of dollars.

Attendance and TV ratings for XFL games were initially strong, but tanked as the season went along.

When asked about Kaepernick's potential inclusion in the XFL, McMahon said that any player would be welcome as long as they abide by the rules laid out by the league. "We're here to play football".

While that sounds like a ton of money (and it is) Vince's recent transaction only accounts for less than 5% of WWE's shares.
