Apple Backports Meltdown Patch to Older macOS Versions

In security update, Apple backports Meltdown fix to older macOS versions

Additionally, Apple has also macOS High Sierra version 10.13.3 that focuses on security, stability, and bug fixes. Although the company had previously released a fix for High Sierra to protect against Meltdown and Spectre, it also released a new update for that version of macOS on Tuesday to address the vulnerability that can be exploited by both of those attacks. These are created to tackle vulnerabilities with Meltdown and Spectre on older MacBooks that use macOS Sierra and OS X El Captain. As CNET spotted, Apple posted about the security updates on its support site. If you're running El Capitan, you'll need to upgrade to version 10.11.6 and those running macOS Sierra will need to upgrade to version 10.12.6 to receive the security update. The updates are dubbed Security Update 2018-001.

Less-hyped, but still serious, are vulnerabilities in the macOS kernel that include an exploitable race condition (CVE-2018-4092), a validation issue (CVE-2018-4093), and memory initialization bug (CVE-2018-4090) that could also allow restricted memory to be read.

German Nurse Convicted of Murder Charged in 97 Additional Deaths
The charges were expected after officials said in November that Hoegel may have killed more than 100 patients over several years. Koziolek believed Hoegel "in all cases at least accepted the death of the patients as a result of the effect of the drugs".

The Meltdown issue was first disclosed at the beginning of the month alongside another issue called Spectre that many companies have said is harder to exploit. A patch had already been pushed out for macOS High Sierra, but not everyone is running the latest version. Alternatively, it can also be updated through iTunes.

iOS 11.2.5 has been released by Apple for its device iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. In order to fight this, operating systems need to be patched to block access, which can have an impact on performance in some circumstances, but for regular consumers, it shouldn't affect much.
