Millennials are stuck in adolescence until the age of 24, experts reveal

The traditional definition for adolescence is now between and the ages of 10 and 19, which marked the beginnings of puberty and the perceived end of biological growth. The age of mensuration in girls shows a drop down of 4 years in the past 150 years.

Various biological reasons support the extension.

Other arguments for pushing back the years of adolescence are based on biological developments, such as the fact that the brain continues to mature past 20 years old and wisdom teeth come out until around 25 years old.

This used to happen around the age of 14 but improved diets and overall health in much of the developed world has seen puberty start to begin as young as ten.

Thinking of adolescence as lasting until age 24 "corresponds more closely" to how the lives of young people today work, writes an expert in adolescent health.

Not Afraid of Elections, Says AAP On MLAs Disqualification Row
Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari lauded the EC's action, saying it is a "moral defeat" for Kejriwal who should resign. He said the BJP stands prepared for elections "any moment".

Young people are also getting married and having children later, the report said. In Britain, people are getting married almost eight years later than they were in 1973.

She said delayed partnering, parenting and economic independence means semi-dependency related to adolescene has expanded. Still, other laws are all over the place - people get their driver's license at 16, but can't rent a vehicle until age 25. "Age definitions are always arbitrary...our current definition of adolescence is overly restricted".

BBC reports there's currently a movement of social scientists who are pushing to extend our framework for adolescence as a society so that you're technically still considered an adolescent until you're 24 years old, whereas our past understanding was that the milestone for adulthood fell somewhere between the ages of 18 and 21 - aka, far too soon for many of us actually living those years right now.

Dr Jan Macarvish, University of Kent Sociologist told the BBC that the paper's suggestions may may further "infantalise" young people and we should "continue to have the highest possible expectations of the next generation".
