This government shutdown is historic for one big reason

President Donald Trump and Democrat Conor Lamb

Up to that point, Democrats largely held together to block the funding legislation, digging in on their insistence that the spending bill include protections for some 700,000 younger immigrants facing deportation.

However Republicans then needed the support of at least 10 Democrats to pass the bill in the Senate.

The move is likely to hit thousands of federal workers.

Crucial differences remain between Trump's Republican Party and the Democratic Party over what should be included in the federal government budget for the fiscal year through September. But the Republican-led Senate held the vote open as almost an hour ticked by and the midnight hour neared, seemingly accommodating the numerous discussions among leaders and other lawmakers away from the chamber's floor. "But as of tonight, due to a completely avoidable government shutdown, they'll stand their post without pay".

The last time that a government shutdown happened was in 2013.

The White House said it would not negotiate with the Democrats on immigration until the shutdown ended.

Trump challenged Democrats for focusing more on amnesty for illegal immigrants than funding the government.

A recent CNN poll revealed that more than half of Americans think it is more important to avoid the shutdown rather than continuing to protect the rights of "Dreamer" immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

Lebanon bans The Post movie
It remains unclear why The Post is being banned as recent Spielberg movies have been shown in Lebanon but a leaked U.S. In 2006, it waged a month-long war against Hezbollah after the movement's fighters abducted two Israeli soldiers.

"This will be called the Trump shutdown because there is no one who deserves the blame. more than President Trump".

Barring a last-minute miracle, the shutdown will begin at midnight, though many parts of government will continue functioning and "essential" employees will stay on the job.

"They put politics above our national security, military families, vulnerable children, and our country's ability to serve all Americans", spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said.

Trump tweeted Friday afternoon, less than seven hours before the midnight deadline, that he had "an excellent preliminary meeting" in the Oval Office with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Trump repeatedly attacked Democrats ahead of the shutdown, ignoring the fact that some members of his own party planned to vote against the continuing resolution for various reasons.

"It's nearly as if you were rooting for a shutdown and now we'll have one and the blame should crash entirely on President Trump's shoulders", he said. "When Democrats start paying our armed forces and first responders, we will reopen negotiations on immigration reform".

Trump canceled the DACA program in September and gave Congress until March 5 to come up with a legislative replacement.
