17 dead after blaze engulfs plastic factory in Bawana

Thirteen workers were killed in November 2016 in New Delhi after a makeshift factory was gutted in a fire. 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and soon contained the level 4 category fire.

The blaze started in the basement of a three-storey plastic manufacturing facility in the Bawana industrial area on the northern edge of New Delhi, which officials suspect was also used to store fireworks. "Keeping a close watch on rescue operations".

"I received information about the incident on phone at around 9 pm and we immediately rushed to the spot".

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Modi said, "Deeply anguished by the fire at a factory in Bawana".

Two people suffered injuries and were taken to hospital, he added.

2 more deaths in North Dakota attributed to flu
Still, the hospital opened a special "flu zone" on Monday where nurses can quickly treat patients with mild influenza symptoms. Though flu deaths are typically concentrated in the elderly population, that's less the case than usual this season.

Fire Chief Atul Garg said the fire swept through a plastics warehouse, a firecracker storage unit and an oil storage container, but that all the casualties were in the plastic factory. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives.

AAP chief Kejriwal, who visited the site late tonight, said the truth will come out only after the inquiry, which has been ordered by the government.

"Saddened at the loss of 17 lives in the Bawana cracker factory fire. May those who are injured recover quickly", the prime minister's office tweeted. "Have ordered an enquiry", Jain tweeted.

According to Rohini deputy commissioner of police Rajneesh Gupta, a case has been registered and a co-owner of the unit, Manoj Jain, was taken into custody. "The fire had broken out from the basement of the factory and eventually spread to the ground floor and the upper floors", he was quoted by Indian Express.
