U2 pays tribute to Dolores O'Riordan: "Limerick's 'Bel Canto'"

Local fans recall Dolores O'Riordan's love of the Kawarthas

A friend of The Cranberries singer Dolores ORiordan has said she sounded "full of life" just hours before her sudden demise.

The Irish singer was in London to record vocals for a cover of The Cranberries' hit "Zombie" by the Los Angeles rock band Bad Wolves.

London's Metropolitan Police said in a statement Tuesday morning that officers were called to a Westminster hotel Monday morning, where a 46-year-old woman was pronounced dead.

Her death is being treated an unexplained.

"I have loads of power in the band", O'Riordan told the Rolling Stone in the early days of success, referencing how she wrote all the lyrics and led her male colleagues to fame.

"The news has come to a shock to me as well the millions of fans she had in Limerick and around the world", he said. In 2014, O'Riordan was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The singer spent part of the last decade living in a waterfront home on Big Bald Lake near Buckhorn with her then husband, Duran Duran tour manager Don Burton.

In the song Dolores sings: "Another head hangs lowly/ Child is slowly taken/ And the violence, caused such silence/ Who are we mistaken?/ But you see, it's not me/ It's not my family".

Vehicle left dangling from office building in California
Firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze, then extricated a second person who was trapped inside the sedan. The vehicle was later removed by the Orange County fire officials with the help of Los Angeles County Urban Search & Rescue team.

The Cranberries fist arrived on the music scene in 1993 when their debut album Everybody's Doing It, So Why Can't We was released.

In a statement on Twitter band members Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan, and Fergal Lawler said: "We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores".

Her three Cranberries bandmates said in a tweet that they were devastated at the passing of an "extraordinary talent". Suffice to say, I am very sad to lose someone who meant so much to me and to many people across the world.

The Cranberries were one of the most popular bands of the 1990s with hits like "Dream" and "Linger".

The official Cranberries website cited "medical reasons associated with a back problem" preventing her from performing. "Feeling good! I did my first bit of gigging in months at the weekend, performed a few songs at the Billboard annual staff holiday party in NY with the house band", it read.

O'Riordan a year ago revealed how she had been battling with depression and mental health troubles for much of her career, culminating in an attempt on her own life in 2013. "Sure, isn't that what life's all about?" she said. Four of the band's singles rank in the top five most-downloaded digital songs on Amazon's list, with "Linger" (up more than 150,000%) ranking second behind "I've Been Blind" by The Fratellis. "I was only a kid", the late singer shared with journalist Barry Eggan in October 2013.
