Google Uses AI to Find Your Fine-Art Doppelgänger

A new feature in the Google Arts & Culture app reveals how your selfie may resemble a historical painting

It basically became an app that matches the photos of users with portraits or artwork that are supposed to have a close or even uncanny resemblance to them.

The face match feature is only available in the USA right now and Google is declining to comment as to an worldwide rollout will be available.

The phenomenon, which will probably dissolve as quickly as it appeared, climbed the ranks and was listed as the top trending app in Apple's App Store Monday morning.

Though the Google Arts & Culture app has been available since 2016, the find-your-art-lookalike feature was released with its latest update in mid-December.

As USA Today reports, Twitter is absolutely blowing up with people posting pictures of themselves and the paintings that they were matched with when using the app.

When I first opened the app, I didn't really know what to do or where to go.

Ryan Giggs named Wales boss
Giggs' first game will be against China at the China Cup , in which they will compete along with Uruguay and the Czech Republic . Giggs replaces Chris Coleman , who left previous year to manage Sunderland after Wales failed to qualify for the World Cup .

Though the viral new feature is restricted to the U.S., it can be accessed through VPNs in other regions as well.

The selfie feature is similar to other apps that use matching technology to find lookalikes.

Users should then scroll down to the section that says "Is your portrait in a museum?".

"Take a selfie and discover if your portrait is in a museum". Tap on Get Started and follow the instructions. The company also says it will not use data from the photo for any other objective, and will only store the photo for the time it takes to search for matches.

Art and apps aren't always mentioned in the same sentence, but that's all changed with the emergence of the new feature. Google has partnered with museums across the world for this app. There are also some app permissions users will need to allow, like access to camera, location and storage. The app is a treasure trove of fine art, with high-resolution images and virtual tours from over 1,200 museums around the world.

Thousands of users posted their results over the weekend-some with more accuracy than others.
