Jon Gruden never wanted to leave Oakland Raiders; now he is back

It wasn't until Davis bowled the former coach over with a 10-year, $100 million contract that Gruden finally returned to the place he started his head coaching career.

The intriguing part of this pairing is the fact that Gruden hasn't coached since the 2008 season, and much has changed since he last strolled the sidelines.

Gruden was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the 2002 season and at the end of his first year defeated the Raiders in Super Bowl 37.

The Oakland Raiders made waves across the National Football League on Tuesday when they announced Jon Gruden as their new head coach during a press conference, but it appears they may not be done.

"Once a Raider, always a Raider", team owner Mark Davis opened Tuesday in introducing the coach who guided the team from 1998-2001.

Cowboys special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia will be allowed out of his contract to join Gruden, per Rapoport.

Oakland Raiders fan Gary Nankivel holds a sign welcoming the team's new head coach John Gruden before a press conference to announce Gruden's hiring Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, in Alameda, Calif.

"Obviously this is very emotional for me". Keep in mind that Gruden use to coach in Green Bay under Mike Holmgren in the 1990s.

"I have a lot to prove". I haven't won a game since 2008.

"I just want to say there's really four major reasons why I'm here coaching today, " Gruden said.

I don't know whose idea it was to kick off a press conference with a hype video, but I can get behind that idea.

The energetic coach will now be tasked with turning around a mercurial Raiders team, led by quarterback Derek Carr, that fell to a disappointing 6-10 in 2017 after a 12-4 playoff trip in 2016.
