Democrats force Senate vote on net neutrality repeal

Those on the side of net neutrality argue that instead of restoring "internet freedom", these rules expose consumers.

"Supporting net neutrality should be a no-brainer for members of Congress, whose constituents from across the political spectrum are united in their opposition to the Trump FCC's attack on the open internet", Matt Wood, Free Press' Action Fund policy director, said in a statement.

Though Democrats now have enough support to force the resolution to a vote in the Senate, they have much steeper barriers to getting it adopted. They know, and they've loudly said, the proposed rules would harm innovation, restrict development, create paid "fast lanes" for companies willing to shell out big bucks for unhindered and preferential treatment and would leave in the "slow" lane any company or organization (or individual) unwilling or unable to pay more for equitable service. It does have the right to weigh in on the matter to protect the interests of its members who are directly affected by the decision. A group of state attorneys general immediately vowed to sue.

Thus far, the number of litigants is still unknown though interested parties will have just under two months to file if they wish to join the lawsuit.it would seem the tech firms did not believe the matter would come to this point and are all rallying to institute damage control.

In 2017, Republican lawmakers and President Donald Trump used the CRA to rescind 14 regulations the Obama administration issued before leaving the White House.

"People are mobilizing across the country to save the free and open internet", Schatz said. The bill says that "No internet service provide engaged int he provision of fixed or mobile broadband Internet access service shall impair or degrade lawful Internet traffic on the basis of content, application, or service or use of a non harmful device, subject to reasonable network management".

"I dissent, because I am among the millions outraged".

This specific resolution, which would overturn the Federal Communications Commission's unpopular December 14 decision to destroy Net Neutrality, will be introduced after the agency delivers the final rules to Congress in the coming weeks. "As for the FCC, we will see you in court".

The anger and public outcry Clyburn mentions can be felt at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where Pai was scheduled to host a "fireside chat" about technology and the internet.
