Steve Bannon says he regrets comments about Trump Jr

US President Donald Trump holds a Cabinet Meeting in the Cabinet Room at the White House in Washington DC on Wednesday

Donald Trump's former chief White House strategist and campaign executive apologized Sunday for comments he had made about the President's son that appear in an explosive new book about the administration. "He has been relentless in his advocacy for his father and the agenda that has helped turn our country around", the statement said.

Bannon concluded the statement, which was first published by Axios, by expressing regret for diverting attention away from the nuances of the President's accomplishment.

So he is easy pickings for someone like Michael Wolff, author of "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House", which paints a frightful picture of Trump as an undisciplined, tempestuous, incompetent president.

The book portrays Trump, a former reality TV star who took office almost a year ago, as mentally unstable and unfit for the demands of his job.

Wolff and his publisher should probably send the president a fruit basket to thank him for his contribution to the success of the book.

US warns Iran at UN
Iran on Wednesday angrily accused the the United Nations of meddling in its domestic affairs. Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Gholamali Khoshroo told a U.N.

Bannon walked back many of his remarks on Sunday about the Russian Federation investigation, Trump, and his family.

Calling Bannon "Sloppy Steve", Trump said Bannon had "lost his mind" and was "only in it for himself". "If they were stronger, hopefully, you would not have something like that happen", he said.

Bannon says his support for the president is "unwavering" and he remains "ready and willing to stand in the breech for this presidency and the administration's effort to make America great again". "It's in his imagination", Trump said about the author of the book Wolff.

Bannon was quoted as saying he was certain Trump Jr would have taken the Russians who took part in the meeting to meet his father. Bannon said Manafort was "a seasoned campaign professional with experience and knowledge of how the Russians operate".

In his statement Sunday, Bannon said his comments were not intended as a slight against the president's son.
