Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Sleeping Woman on Spirit Airlines Flight to Detroit

A 34-year-old Indian man on board a USA flight was arrested by federal authorities in MI after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her while she was asleep.

Ramamoorthy, who prosecutors said was an Indian national living in the U.S. on a temporary visa, was charged with aggravated sexual abuse and held without bail after an appearance in federal court in MI on Thursday, the Washington Post reported.

The horrified passenger woke up and allegedly found her shirt and trousers unbuttoned, and the man's hand inside her trousers.

She also said the couple had requested a flight attendant seat the woman elsewhere.

He allegedly told authorities that he partially unzipped her trousers and unsuccessfully attempted to put his fingers down her trousers, WJBK reports.

A passenger is accused of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman on a Spirit Airlines flight.

Ramamoorthy, whose age was not available, was taken into custody at the Wayne County Airport Authority.

South Korea offers to talk with North on Olympics cooperation
Chun Yung-woo, a former South Korean national security adviser, said Seoul should have taken more time before answering. This week's exchanges follow a year dominated by fiery threats form Kim and U.S.

He ultimately admitted to unzipping her trousers and attempting to digitally penetrate her, The Detroit News reports.

Prosecutor Jawad said Ramamoorthy gave "conflicting reports" about what happened with the victim.

He initially told authorities that he was also asleep, and that the woman had fallen asleep on his knee and he wasn't sure where he had kept his hand. She said a flight attendant then moved her to a seat behind the man harassing her.

Mr Ramamoorthy denied the accusations, telling police he was himself asleep after taking a pill.

The victim was crying and appeared befuddled with her clothes undone, when she reported the incident about 40 minutes before the plane was due to land, two flight attendants stated. Magistrate Judge R. Steven Whalen ordered Ramamoorthy to be held pending trial.

Ramamoorthy's lawyer, Richard O'Neill, offered to turn over his client's passport.

Stephen Schuler, a spokesman for Spirit, said it was cooperating with law enforcement on the incident.
