First blue moon total eclipse in 150 years coming January 31

Partial lunar eclipse seen in Northern Colorado

In fact, the night of January 31 will see three separate celestial events happen simultaneously, resulting in a Super Blue Blood Moon eclipse. During this event, certain wavelengths of light from the sun pass through the Earth's atmosphere and reflect onto the moon, turning it a dramatic red colour. On America's East Coast the eclipse will start coming into view at 5:51 a.m. and will give viewers in cities like NY only a small window to see the reddish moon. Unlike the solar eclipse that occurred in 2017, however, this eclipse will not be visible in the continental United States but in central and eastern Asia, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia.

The supermoon on January 31 will be the second full moon of the month-a blue moon.

The moon rose just shy of full on New Year's Eve, promising a supermoon early in 2018.

Total eclipses will be visible from everywhere on the Earth that will have night, and the duration of each visible eclipse will vary from place to place. Moonset will intervene for the rest of North and Central America. A royal blue blood supermoon will crown this spectacular season on January 31.

Unfortunately because of the location of the moon when the eclipse is set to occur, not everyone on the planet will be able to see it. America's West Coast will get the best look at the blood moon as the eclipse begins at 2:51 a.m. and will last through 6 a.m.

Carrie Underwood Reveals Facial Injury in Note to Fans
The 34-year-old Grammy victor , who is the face of Olay and Almay, said that for some time she wasn't ready to talk about it. Underwood shared with fans that after seven weeks of recovery, she is ready to tell people , but not ready to show them.

NASA has announced that the supermoon at the end of the month will feature a total lunar eclipse.

The phrase "once in a blue moon" - meaning something that does not happen very often - impresses how infrequent this event is.

The combination of a supermoon and total lunar eclipse creating a blood moon last occurred in 1982 and will not happen again until 2033. To answer that question, we consulted the reference book Canon of Lunar Eclipses, 1500 B.C. - A.D.

We will have more to say about January's eclipse here at Space.com in the coming weeks.
