Case registered against Asha Kumari for ‘slapping’ constable

What happens next may well be unheard of - the cop slaps her right back.

The clip, tweeted by news agency ANI and shot presumably on Friday, shows a woman, purportedly Congress leader and Himachal Pradesh MLA Asha Kumari, slapping a woman constable. "I apologize", the Congress MLA said.

Kumari, 57, was allegedly restricted by the police' from entering the party headquarters after which she took offence and slapped a woman constable. However, she said the constable pushed her and abused her. Sources said that since Rahul - an SPG protectee - had already begun the meeting, the police officials posted outside the Congress office in Shimla - the venue of the review meet - were directed to not allow anyone else in.

As the incident created a furore in the media, the 57-year-old Dalhousie MLA apologised for her behaviour. In retaliation, the constable also slapped the MLA.

Asha Kumari is the All India Congress Committee secretary and AICC in-charge of Punjab.

Gandhi is expected to meet party legislators, defeated party candidates and district presidents, and discuss with them the reasons for the defeat. In the meeting, Rahul Gandhi was expected to meet the party legislators.

Assembly elections in the hill state were held in single phase on November 9. The party lost to the BJP after being reduced to just 21 seats in the 68-member Assembly.
