Dangerously cold temperatures, wind chills take hold in central Indiana

Up to 2″ Of Snow Friday, Saturday

On Monday, New Year's Day, it will be sunny and cold, with a high near 8, the weather service said. A far cry from the upper 30s more typical for late December. Cold conditions won't be letting up anytime soon. A reinforcing shot of cold arrives just in time for 2018. This is a minor system with low impact, however, we could pick up a couple of inches of snow.

We have now spent 6 days with below normal temperatures and are likely to spend another week or two below our average high of 47° in Tulsa.

Lauderdale County EMA Director George Grabryan recommends leaving faucets dripping when temperatures get well below freezing at night.

This is why the National Weather Service has issued Wind Chill Advisories for our northern tier, as wind chills there may end up between 10 and 20 degrees below zero in those locations.

In the meantime, we will keep an eye on the coastal storms to make sure they behave.

Dangerously cold temperatures, wind chills take hold in central Indiana

Thursday will be another day where temperatures remain unaffected by the sun's rays.

A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect for a large swath of Southeast Michigan this morning, where some spots could see readings of 22 below zero. Temperatures by Thursday morning dip down into the teens and for some in the New River Valley, the single digits.

Sunshine will be back today, but it won't warm us up much at all. Snow showers will greet the morning, though little to no snow accumulation is expected throughout the day.

Tonight: Snow, mainly after 10pm. Again, this appears to be the more likely of the two scenarios right now. Nothing heavy seems lined up for us, but the heavy coats will continue to be needed as temperatures plummet further into the new year. However, it will be dry for those festivities. Another window for snow may open up around the second half of next week.
